Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic Fibrosis

Rare congenital disease of children.

The prerequisite for a healthy life is not to neglect small things. A small thing can sometimes become a cause of great suffering.

When we were running to the doctor about the problem of cerebral palsy in my sister's child, we came to know about another problem - that is "Cystic Fibrosis". Knowing all this, we understand - how much more we have to know to lead a healthy life!!!

The expert said - this is basically a hereditary fatal disease of the respiratory system of children. It gradually affects various organs. If close relatives marry, the risk of this congenital disease in children increases.

For example - here, emotional or self-interested issues can be mentioned. Many people marry close relatives, including cousins, out of emotion. Again, in many families, they marry close relatives for self-interested reasons.

This can result in problems like cystic fibrosis. It is true that human life cannot be lived without emotions, but to lead a healthy life, one must think scientifically while keeping emotions in mind.

If you want to know, you can learn a lot by reading health magazines and you can also get advice from experts.

The expert said - This problem occurs due to a change in the CFTR gene in the exocrine glands of the body. In this case, less chloride ions are secreted in the glands, more sodium ions and water are absorbed. As a result, the juice secreted by the glands becomes thick. In this, if inflammation occurs due to the attack of bacteria like Pseudomonas, lung diseases do not get better easily. This disease damages the lungs, pancreas, intestines and liver.

Without listening to the doctor's explanation, we ordinary people cannot even imagine how much suffering a child's life ends prematurely. The child first suffers from bronchiolitis, then repeatedly suffers from pneumonia. Later, the inner parts of the airways become wider. As a result, the child's lungs gradually lose their function. Respiratory failure can also occur. Children with cystic fibrosis suffer from repeated diarrhea or oily stools, food is not digested, and the child suffers from malnutrition.

It is possible to confirm cystic fibrosis disease if the chloride level is high by testing the body's sweat. If the disease is detected early and treated properly, the child remains healthy for a long time.

In the developed world, their life expectancy is about 37 years. Various research articles show that pediatric chest disease specialists in Bangladesh have been diagnosing and treating several cystic fibrosis diseases for about 20 years.

How to understand -

1. If there is repeated shortness of breath, and

2. If the child does not gain weight according to age.

Then, if changes in bronchiectasis are found on the chest CT scan, one should suspect - the child is suffering from a rare disease called cystic fibrosis. Children are affected by this disease between the ages of one and one and a half years. But the disease is diagnosed at the age of about seven/eight years.

Regarding treatment, the doctor says -

The mucus in the respiratory tract should be cleared through chest exercises or physiotherapy and mucus thinning medicine/mucolytic medicine. Apart from this, treatment is done with antibiotics, pancreatic enzymes, vitamins, calcium and other medicines.

Regular follow-up with pediatric chest disease specialists is necessary. These children should be given high-calorie and fatty foods. If the disease is diagnosed quickly and given proper treatment - the child and his family can be protected from unnecessary suffering and the anxiety of losing a family member, and a child can also hope to lead a healthy life.
