 Problem - Protein in urine

Problem - Protein in urine

Once, one of my neighbors suddenly developed pre-eclampsia during pregnancy. That's when I knew about the issue of protein in urine and the dangers it poses.

There is no substitute for awareness to lead a healthy life with diseases like diabetes or high blood pressure.

We become worried when we see the presence of protein in the urine test. Protein (sometimes called albumin) in urine is not normal. It is an early symptom of kidney problems. People with diabetes and high blood pressure should have their urine tested for protein from time to time. Because it gives an idea about the condition of the kidneys.

Experts say the reason for protein in the urine is -- The protein in our blood is usually dissolved in the kidney filter and cannot be excreted with the urine. Excretion of more than 30 milligrams of albumin per day is worrisome.

Diabetes and high blood pressure are among the causes of protein excretion in the urine. Apart from this, protein can pass into the urine due to kidney inflammation, infection, SLE or lupus amyloidosis, and side effects of some medications.

In pregnant women, protein in the urine along with high blood pressure can lead to dangers like pre-eclampsia.

Sometimes, a little protein can pass into the urine even if there is fever, excessive exertion or exercise, or standing for a long time. But if protein is continuously passed, especially if it happens for more than three months, it indicates chronic kidney disease.

How can we understand --

It is difficult to identify this problem without routine urine tests. Therefore, patients with diabetes and high blood pressure should have their urine tested for protein every 6 months or 1 year. If the protein excretion rate is high, the body swells and becomes weak, and water comes out of the mouth and feet. The urine may be cloudy or whitish.

So what can we do ---

There is nothing to panic about if protein is detected in the urine test. The doctor will try to understand the extent of the complication by determining the amount of protein excreted in 24 hours.

If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, it must be controlled. It must be determined whether there are any other causes. GFR is needed to understand the level of kidney function. Using ACE inhibitors or ARB drugs reduces albumin excretion somewhat.

Albumin excretion in urine is not only a warning sign of kidney disease, but also a warning sign of imminent heart attack. Therefore, you should also pay attention to keeping your heart healthy. And you should seek medical attention.

To live an overall healthy life, you need to be aware of and follow even minor problems.
