Risks of Heat-stroke

Risks of Heat-stroke, heat cramps or heat exhaustion

When my son was young, one summer he suddenly fainted while playing during the school play period. I did not know about heat-stroke at all until he got into trouble. What a terrible danger I went through with my son at that time.

Heat-stroke is a type of complication caused by an increase in body temperature.

We learn by getting into trouble. If we want to lead a healthy life, everyone should know and be careful.

The doctor said - when the temperature of the external environment increases, our body automatically tries to maintain the internal temperature. And if we cannot control this temperature, complications arise.

In normal conditions, the temperature of the human body is 98 degrees Fahrenheit. When the body loses control of its temperature and complications arise, it is called heatstroke.

Due to excessive sweating in extreme heat, the body loses water and fluids. As a result, symptoms such as physical weakness, fatigue, dizziness, muscle pain, extreme thirst, nausea, etc. occur. This condition is called heat cramps or heat exhaustion. If you stay in an extremely hot and humid environment for a long time or work hard, it is often no longer possible for the body to control the heat.

Experts say that - in heatstroke, the skin becomes dry and red, the body stops sweating. The pulse becomes weak and rapid. Blood pressure and urine output decrease. The breathing rate increases. Convulsions may occur. The patient may faint. Heatstroke can even be life-threatening.

# I asked to Doctor - Who is at higher risk? –

-         Anyone can get heatstroke in hot and humid environments. However, those who do physical labor in the open air in the hot sun - such as farmers, laborers, and rickshaw pullers - are at higher risk of heatstroke.

Pedestrians who walk for long periods in the hot sun or school children who play in the schoolyard in the sun are also at risk of heatstroke. Those who work in factories or indoors in hot and humid environments for long periods (such as garment workers) can also get heatstroke.

Children and the elderly are at higher risk because their bodies have less ability to regulate their body temperature. Obesity, certain medications, such as antihistamines, and psychiatric medications - increase the risk.

# What to do -

In case of heatstroke, take the patient to a cool environment as soon as possible. Remove the clothes, or wet the body with water along with the clothes and turn on the fan or AC. If necessary, wrap him in a wet cloth for a while. Apply ice to the armpits and groin. If the patient is conscious, give him water and saline to drink. Arrange to take him to the hospital quickly.

Heatstroke can be prevented by taking some precautions. If it is excessively hot, stay indoors or in a shaded place as much as possible. If you have to go out, wear thin, loose cotton clothes and use an umbrella or cap. Drink plenty of water. You can also drink saline to drink if you sweat a lot.

If you have to work in the sun, take occasional rest and drink water, fruit juice and saline.

Drink less tea or coffee, as these increase body heat. Those who travel long distances in extreme heat should be careful about this - to lead a healthy life.
