Those who cannot tolerate milk or any other food
Many people like me cannot tolerate milk and dairy
products. Drinking milk causes flatulence, some people have diarrhea, some have
indigestion. Nutrition experts call such a problem 'lactose intolerance'.
The name of the sugar component in milk is lactose. A
special enzyme in our digestive system breaks down this lactose and converts it
into glucose and galactose. Due to the lack of this special enzyme, some people
do not break down the lactose in milk and milk is not digested.
We know that milk is an ideal food. Milk contains
enough protein, calcium and vitamin D. Milk is a very necessary food for
children and adolescents, pregnant and lactating mothers and the elderly. So
those who, especially children who have lactose intolerance, have a lot of problems.
Children who are congenitally deficient in the lactase
enzyme ferment the lactose in their milk in their intestines, causing them to
cry out in pain and have loose stools as soon as they drink milk. Sometimes
problems can arise as they grow older.
If you experience stomach discomfort, a feeling of
heaviness or bloating, gas, loose stools, etc. within half an hour to two hours
of drinking milk, you will understand that you have lactose intolerance.
Sometimes, the problem is worse when you drink only liquid milk.
What
can be an alternative to milk? --
1. As an alternative to milk in terms of calcium and
protein, small fish with spines, soy milk, tofu or cyanage made from soybeans,
sea fish, any type of pulses and seed-based foods, such as bean sprouts,
pumpkin seeds, kale, safflower leaves, mustard greens, mint leaves, dried fish,
etc. should be eaten regularly.
2. Some people have difficulty digesting yogurt, ghee
or cheese. Because it contains lactic acid, which helps in breaking it down.
These can be eaten instead of milk. 3. Mixing cocoa with milk
often reduces the problem. If you mix 1 gram of yeast in 360 ml of cow's milk
just before drinking, lactose is broken down into glucose and galactose, and
then you do not have problems.
# Not only milk, many people cannot tolerate many
foods. So just because you cannot tolerate it, you cannot be excused. Which
food is not tolerated? Why is it not tolerated - you have to find out and solve
it.
Experts say - 'I cannot eat anything made from milk. I
cannot tolerate it'. Or 'They are asking me to eat bread at night? I cannot
tolerate bread'. Or 'I get upset stomach when I eat vegetables' - we often hear
such conversations.
Again, doctors have forbidden milk, milk products,
pulses, and vegetables due to digestive problems. In fact, the issue of not
being able to tolerate any particular food or food intolerance is quite
mysterious. It is difficult to understand who is having problems with any food.
So it's not okay to lump everyone into one category and give them one piece of
advice. Everyone has to figure out for themselves which foods they have
intolerances to.
For this, some methods can be adopted, such as –
1. Food intolerance means a person's sensitivity to a
particular food. Maybe they lack the enzymes needed to digest that food, or
they are allergic to some of the ingredients in that food.
2. Pay attention to whether you have problems eating a
particular food repeatedly. You may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea,
stomach pain, rash, flatulence, etc. within two hours of eating the food. To
understand, it is good to create a food diary. On which days you have stomach
or digestive problems, mark them in red. Now see what foods you ate that day in
the diary. In this way, after two weeks, it is possible to know which foods are
causing problems.
3. People with lactose intolerance cannot digest milk
and dairy products. Due to the lack of enzymes, milk becomes hard in the
stomach. It is more common in children. Gluten sensitivity is also seen from
childhood. Gluten is present in bread and wheat-based foods. If you do not have
a gallbladder, you will have problems with fatty and fried foods.
4. There are other reasons for indigestion besides
food intolerance. Such as gallbladder problems, pancreatic stones or inflammation,
IBS, etc. So don't always blame food. Find out the problem.
