Newborn baby's sleep
A new baby was born in my neighbor's house. Everyone is very happy. But all happiness fades away when the child stays awake all night, and falls asleep during the day. It causes more problems for parents, affecting physical and mental health due to lack of necessary sleep.
There are two types of problems with newborns. One is
to sleep less, another is to sleep all day and stay up all night. The latter
type is the most ironic, as parents also have to stay awake at night. It is not
possible to sleep during the day due to the pressure of necessary work.
Once upon a time I read a research article published
in the Journal of Pediatrics - This is because of not understanding the
difference between day and night. Our biological clock or body clock is created
by different parts of the body, surrounding environment and habits. Because of
this body clock, we can understand the difference between day and night. This
body clock takes some time to work in newborns due to long time in the dark of
mother's womb. This problem gets resolved within 3 to 4 months.
I saw in the research article - the study also found
surprising information about the total duration of nighttime sleep in newborns
- Although newborns are supposed to need 8 to 12 hours of continuous sleep at
night, studies have shown that 38 percent of 6-month-old babies wake up
repeatedly during the night, 43 percent of 12-month-old babies cannot sleep for
8 consecutive hours.
Babies who are breastfed usually don’t sleep continuously,
waking up repeatedly. Because breast milk is easily digested, the baby is often
hungry and wakes up because of this. However, this repeated awakening from
sleep is not harmful, but is helpful for its growth and nutrition.
Parents who suffer from sleep deprivation and work
disruptions can find relief by adopting a few methods - Try to keep the baby
awake as much as possible during the day. You can keep bright lights on in the
house during the day. Talk loudly to each other, have a conversation with the
child, play. Make sure that the child does not sleep early in the evening.
Colorful clothes, toys and bright lights will stimulate him.
Tap the baby's feet so that he does not fall asleep
while feeding. If the yolk is wiped with warm water, the baby will be fresh and
will sleep less.
Keep awake him in the early evening and a little late
in the night turn off the lights in the room. After that keep the house quiet.
Speak in a whisper. Try to feed the baby well before sleep.
Even if the child does not sleep, take him to bed. Can
be rocked him and put to sleep. If these methods are adopted, most of the
children will gradually start sleeping not during the day, but at night.
