Excessive fussiness about food
We occasionally get together with our neighbors and
relatives and have a picnic. A few days ago, we organized a similar event to
welcome a new neighbor. The problem came to my attention right away. The three
children of the new neighbor started having problems with the food – because we
had arranged the food with various fish dishes, vegetarian dishes and sweets
instead of meat. We did this intentionally to bring variety. We, the organizers,
were very embarrassed at that time. We had to get rid of the shame by bringing
cooked meat from the hotel.
Food is something that starts to be desired right from birth. The first manifestation of a newborn's desire for food is a loud cry. Since then, we eat both when we need it and when we don't need it. We eat when our stomach is hungry - and when our eyes are hungry, that is, when we see it and get greedy - we eat it.
There are different types of eaters, for example -
there are many - we eat only to eat, eating is all joy! We call them omnivores!
Some are - avid eaters! On the other hand - there are some who are fussy - we
don't eat this - we don't eat that.
But is eating just eating? I felt hungry or I tasted
it - I ate it! What I ate, when and how much of this food I needed - I don't
care. Or I didn't feel like eating or I'm not used to eating - so I didn't eat.
But I don't think it's necessary to think whether this
way will lead a healthy life. Is this right?
It is good to know here - these contradictory
lifestyles are contrary to a healthy life. There are several rules and
regulations in our life which, if followed, are beneficial for us.
Children and adults are also seen to be selective about food. Psychiatry experts say - Studies show that a child grows up without eating any fish due to preconceived beliefs from childhood. Due to this, he does not get to taste all the different foods, and is also deprived of the nutritional value.
A child may eat chicken every day. He does not eat other foods. Many children have this tendency to eat certain foods. It is not always because of a mental health problem, but most of the time the child hears negative things about the food he does not like, sees negative behavior and the parents unknowingly create disgust in the child's mind about the particular food.
In this way, the child gets used to a certain food.
Then, even after a thousand attempts, the child no longer wants to eat other
foods with the necessary nutritional value. This habit remains even in
adulthood. Since the taste buds are not suitable for all foods, he cannot eat
those foods anymore.
Therefore, every family should be aware of this from
childhood.
Some people have an aversion to food of a particular
color, shape or smell due to a special eating disorder called
"Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder". The child or person
affected by this problem loses weight, does not grow properly, suffers from
malnutrition, and develops a kind of dependence on their favorite food. The
biggest problem is that their psychosocial behaviors also change.
In addition, children or people with 'Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder (OCD)' or 'Autism' can also have problems with food.
Experts say - to get rid of such problems, parents
should take responsibility and start feeding balanced food of different types,
tastes and colors at the early stage of the child's development. Parents should
never make negative comments about any food. Don't serve the same type of food
all the time on the pretext that your child doesn't eat this or that.
Serve a variety of foods in different ways, in
different styles, this will create interest. If the child does not eat even one
or two meals, do not get upset about it, but try to bring variety to the food
for his long-term improvement. You should try to get the child used to any
environment, any area, any type of food. In this way, the child will grow up
with adequate nutrition, and the parents will also get relief.
Even then, if someone has a severe problem with food
selection, the first thing to do is to see if they have OCD or any other
problem. If so, they should seek the help of a psychiatrist and receive
appropriate treatment. This is essential to lead a healthy life.
