Sleep hygiene When we were young, our parents were very conscious about our sleep. They never let us stay up at night to do anything, including studying, they used to say – “There is no alternative to healthy sleep - to lead a healthy life . If we do not sleep properly, our head will not be well, which means the brain will not function properly. If the brain does not function properly, it means that the day is wasted”.  God has also designated night for rest and day for work.  But unfortunately, in the present era of extreme modernity, people have turned day into night – and night into day, we see every where!!   Desire is - I went to sleep, again - spent a few days without sleeping. Or having to take sleeping pills because you can't sleep, going to bed late, so getting up late the next day - none of this is healthy. It is not right to become dependent on sleeping pills because you are not sleeping. Said the expert - There is no substitute for adequate sleep t...

Fasting and Diabetics

Fasting and Diabetics

I have diabetes. At first I had hyperglycemia, after a few years I started having hypos if I was careless. So I was afraid. At one point I visited the doctor to verify the validity of my fear.

We Muslims know and accept that Ramadan is a month of blessings given by God to us. And those who follow religion perfectly - they observe fasting at different times of the year. Every religion has a provision for fasting. All the provisions of God have a beneficial aspect - you can understand it if you pay attention.

Medical science has also acknowledged through experiments how beneficial fasting is for human health from time to time, and how it benefits. Even then, diabetic patient hesitates, thinking that there will be a 'sudden danger' like hypoglycemia. Let's see what diabetics can do to observe fasting whenever they want without any problems.

Dietician says - When fasting during Ramadan or any other time, our normal lifestyle and eating habits change. Diabetic patients' food, exercise, and medication schedules also change. If they do not follow the correct rules and regulations regarding food, many of them may face problems like low blood sugar or high blood sugar.

If you have been suffering from diabetes for a long time, consult a doctor and adjust the level of medicine or insulin. It is also better to consult a nutritionist.

Diabetic patients can start iftar with coconut water or lemon juice or low-sweet seasonal fruits. Sugar cannot be used.

Apart from this, sour yogurt lassi or labang can be a healthy drink for iftar. Along with two small dates. Dates contain enough fiber, so there is no risk of sugar increasing very quickly.

Iftar should be balanced and nutritious. You can choose any one of the sources of sugar in Iftar, such as muri, chira or oats. Boiled chickpeas, sour curd, eggs can be a good source of protein and vitamin B complex. Along with moderate amounts of sour fruits. However, do not eat any other fruits on the day you eat fruit juice.

You can also eat green salad. Sometimes, measure your blood sugar two hours after iftar to see if it is okay.

Diabetic patients should not skip dinner. Because unlike the six meal times, there are three meal times during Ramadan or any other fasting period. During this, the calories for the whole day are divided properly.

You can include red flour roti, vegetables, fish or meat in the dinner menu. Along with this, drink enough water. This will eliminate dehydration and constipation.

Sehri is the most important meal for diabetic patients. One should choose a food for Sehri that will provide energy throughout the day and help prevent hypoglycemia. In that case, it is better to eat rice. It will continue to supply glucose to the body throughout the day.

Softly cooked fibrous vegetables will meet the needs of important vitamins and minerals. Fish can be a source of easily digestible protein. However, if someone does not want to eat fish, they can choose meat, eggs or sour yogurt as protein.

You can walk for 20-25 minutes an hour after iftar. However, if you have completed the Tarawih prayer, there is no need for any separate physical exercise.

During fasting other than the month of Ramadan - do not forget this walk.

There are many things to keep in mind to lead a healthy life.
