Hand and foot care
My uncle sometimes walks like a cripple. The problem
is nothing special, but many things – his feet crack a lot, sometimes blood
comes out of those cracks. Sometimes he gets better with treatment, but he
doesn't care, he thinks "a little crack in the foot" is nothing
special. But we can see that he is in a lot of pain.
No one will look at the feet or the feet will be
covered with shoes - so do you think that there is no need for foot care?
No, of course not. To lead a healthy life,
feet also need care and it is very important. If you do not do it, it cannot be
said - sometimes you may need to walk lamely. Because various problems arise in
the feet if there is a lack of proper care. Moreover, when you have problems,
it is understood that God did not create any of our organs unnecessarily.
Hand
or toenail infection -
Nail infection is quite a painful thing. If you have
an infection in your toenails, you will later understand how important foot
care is to live a healthy life! If you have a fungal infection in your
toenails, if you do not treat it seriously, you will have to suffer severely.
It is not right to take antifungal medicines for a
long time without the permission of the doctor. Because it has some serious
side effects. The doctor said that it may cause liver problems.
There are many reasons behind the failure of fungal
infections to heal. For example - uncontrolled diabetes, malnutrition, immune
system problems, not taking treatment at the right dose and duration,
resistance to antifungal drugs, etc. It is important to seek help from a
dermatologist for proper treatment. The doctor will treat it based on the
infection. Do not try to treat it yourself or take advice from someone else.
The doctor said - It is better if you can prevent it.
What you need to do to prevent it –
1. Keep your nails clean and dry.
2. Disinfect your hands and feet if they come into
contact with fungus.
3. Do not walk barefoot while exercising or walking in
public places.
4. Avoid trauma to your nails and skin.
You
can try some home remedies -
1. Apple cider
vinegar: - Apple cider vinegar contains antibacterial properties. It works
to reduce the infection caused by fungus. Soak the affected nail in a mixture
of apple cider vinegar and water for half an hour every day to reduce the
growth of fungus.
2. Baking soda:
- Works great to reduce the growth of fungus. Make a paste of baking soda and
water and keep it on the nail for 20 minutes. Then clean it.
3. Garlic: -
Garlic is known as an anti-fungal ingredient. Crush a few cloves of garlic and
keep it in lukewarm water for a while. Then again, heat this water slightly or
tolerably and soak the affected nail for 10/15 minutes or as long as desired.
Use this method until you recover.
4. Turmeric
- We know that it is an antiseptic ingredient. It works in the treatment and
prevention of diseases. Make a paste of one teaspoon or a quantity of turmeric
powder in water or take raw turmeric paste and apply it on the affected area
for 3/4 hours or as long as you want.
5. Onion -
Onion also has anti-fungal properties. Cut an onion in half and rub it on the
affected nail. Do this 3/4 times a day. Leave it for 20/25 minutes after
rubbing. If you want, you can wash it after rubbing or not.
Another
foot problem is cracked feet -
Dermatologists say - cracked feet occur due to
excessive dryness of the skin on the feet, meaning those with excessively dry
feet are more likely to crack.
Many people have this problem throughout the year and
many people get cracked feet in winter. Not in summer, because in winter the
humidity in the air decreases, resulting in dry skin. The lower layer of the
skin on the feet cracks and bursts, causing pain, irritation, and difficulty
walking. Sometimes it also gets infected.
Again, many people tend to get cracked feet due to
some diseases - such as uncontrolled diabetes, psoriasis, eczema, fungal
infections, xerosis, thyroid problems, etc. The skin becomes drier for various
reasons. Obese people also get cracked feet more. Apart from this, open shoes
or sandals, friction on the back of the shoes, improperly fitting shoes, etc.
increase the risk of this problem.
Doctor's
warning -
1. Excessive hot water dries out the skin. Use
lukewarm water when bathing or cleaning your feet. It is also not good to keep
your feet submerged in water for a long time. If it is too much in winter, take
5 to 10 minutes to finish bathing.
2. Excessive use of alkaline soap, excessive rubbing
increases the dryness of the skin.
3. Those who are affected by this foot problem should
not walk barefoot. When going out in the cold air, wear closed shoes or sandals
instead of open shoes or shoes.
4. Never use anything sharp to remove dead skin on
your feet yourself. If you rub too much with a pumice stone, the skin can be
cut. Especially diabetic patients should seek help from a specialist to remove
dead skin - follow the instructions.
Things
to do -
1. Apply a good moisturizer to maintain moisture in
your feet. Clean your feet, pat them dry with a towel, and then apply
moisturizer. Petroleum jelly, olive oil or coconut oil, and glycerin are useful
in preventing cracked feet.
2. You can apply moisturizer to your feet at night and
sleep wearing cotton socks. This will preserve the moisture of the skin.
3. If your feet are cracked and bleeding or if there
is an infection, it is best to seek medical attention.
# Foot problems can occur not only in the feet, but
also in other parts. For example, problems can occur in the knee joint. Almost
people in their fifties are seen suffering from knee problems.
Knee
muscle exercises -
Experts say - the knees not only bear the weight of
our body, but also help us walk and stand upright, run and sit normally. The
knees endure a lot of stress during sports or running.
Knee pain can occur for various reasons. In most
cases, injury is a major cause. However, with increasing age (after age 40),
the biggest cause of knee pain is osteoarthritis or knee bone loss.
Knee osteoarthritis is known as an age-related
degenerative disease. However, in addition to age, knee osteoarthritis can
occur for various reasons. Such as weight gain, injury to the knee joint,
lifting heavy objects, not knowing or not doing the knee bend correctly, and
constant climbing and descending stairs puts a lot of pressure on the knees.
Apart from this, there may also be hereditary causes of cartilage loss.
Things
to do -
Keep your body weight under control. Excess weight
puts pressure on your knees. In this case, aerobic exercise helps in losing
weight and keeping your body healthy. Along with this, you should also control
your food intake.
Diet
--
You should eat less fried foods, cakes, biscuits, etc.
Sugary foods. Omega-3 fatty acids (walnuts or flax seeds), vitamin C (guava,
pineapple, papaya, tomatoes), vitamin E (sunflower oil, spinach, broccoli),
vitamin D (fish and eggs such as salmon, shrimp), beta-carotene-rich foods
(carrots, tomatoes, capsicum, spinach, mint leaves, red potatoes) - it is
better to eat more of these foods.
Exercise
regularly --
Physiotherapy says - Osteoarthritis of the knee
usually weakens the thigh muscles. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the
thigh muscles. Because, these muscles put some pressure on the knee joint and
protect the knee from damage. Some exercises should be done to strengthen the
muscles.
Remember that most belts or knee supports weaken the
muscles and damage the knee. They should not be used.
1. Sit straight on the floor with your legs straight.
Then roll a large towel under one knee and press it with your knee. Stay like
this for 10 seconds. Keep the rest of the body normal and breathe naturally. Do
the same with the other leg. Do this 10 times.
2. First sit straight on the floor. Fold both legs in
half. Now press the heel of one foot on the floor. Stay there for 10 seconds.
Then do it with the other leg. Do this 10 times.
3. Sit on a chair. Then slowly straighten one leg and
keep lifting it up. When the leg is straight, hold it for 10 seconds. Then
lower the leg down and do it with the other leg. Do this 10 times.
4. From standing, bend your knees and sit half way, as
if you are sitting on a chair, and stand straight again. Stay in the
half-sitting position for 10 seconds. Do this 10 times.
# Medicine and rheumatology experts say - it is
important to have a correct idea about the disease. It is important to accept
that osteoarthritis is not curable. However, it is possible to reduce pain and
improve quality of life through treatment, such as ---
1. Control your weight.
2. Avoid sitting with your knees bent or working while
sitting, and avoid climbing stairs.
3. Do specific exercises to increase the function of
the muscles around the knee.
4. Take medicine as advised by the doctor depending on
the severity of the pain. Paracetamol and capsaicin cream are sufficient for
mild pain. If the pain does not subside, painkillers may be prescribed. Before
that, the patient's kidney, liver, and heart condition should be checked.
5. Although cold or hot compresses provide temporary
relief, this benefit is not long-term.
6. After all efforts, surgery or knee replacement can
be considered.
