Precautions for baby's eyes
We, as ordinary people, never think that a child can
have eye problems at birth. We see many people with cross-eyed around us, but
do we ever think that if the parents of this person were aware or knew at the
time of birth that this problem can be solved with a little treatment, then the
person would have been saved from a lot of suffering.
Someone may say - "It's a minor matter, why run
to the doctor about it"!! But I would say - if it's really a minor matter,
ask the doctor once. And ask the 'squint eyed' person - does he have any
inferiority complex?
To lead a healthy life, you need to know. It's not
just the problem of myopia, there are many other problems that children suffer
from but cannot explain, so parents need to be aware.
I learned a lot about myopia in my own son's eyes
after going to the doctor. I realized that I had to take him to the eye doctor
much later. At first, I was taking measures to reduce the headache because my
son was having a headache, I was managing his various problems including
rubbing his eyes repeatedly when he sat down to read. But the doctor told me
that it was all because of an eye problem --
The headache persists -
• If you notice that the child's two eyes are not fixed
on the same point or in the same direction, it means he is showing myopia.
• He brings his eyes very close to his eyes while
looking at a book or notebook.
• He rubs his eyes repeatedly or rubs his eyes.
• He is unable to read or write on the blackboard
properly at school.
• Abnormalities in the use of limbs, such as when
playing ball - the ball passes by his hand - but he is unable to catch it.
In case of myopia, the child sees close objects
clearly, but squints when looking at a distant sign. In case of hyperopia, the
child sees close objects such as books and notebooks blurry.
Cross-eyed children or squint is a very common
problem. In addition, they may have problems with color vision or color
recognition. Even cases of cataracts in children are not rare.
In addition, children should have routine eye
examinations several times. For example, within 72 hours of birth and again
when they start school, i.e. at the age of 4-5. If you notice any problems
during this time, take the child to the doctor. In many countries, it is
mandatory for children to have their eyes examined once every two years.
Congenital cataract and developmental cataract --
The doctor said - Children should have their eyes
checked once within 72 hours of birth, because there is a problem called
congenital cataract in children. Again, some children can develop cataracts
while growing up after birth. This is called developmental cataract.
Children can develop cataracts for various reasons. If
the mother is infected with various viruses during pregnancy, the newborn can
develop cataracts. For this reason, the first 6 weeks of pregnancy are very
important. At this time, if a pregnant mother has a fever or skin rash, then it
is necessary to be careful. Apart from this, due to malnutrition of the
pregnant mother, complications related to childbirth, genetic defects of the
child, metabolic and hormonal problems, the newborn can be born with cataracts.
However, cataracts in children are not like those in
adults. Children have poor vision at birth. It gradually develops.
The biggest influencer in this development of vision
is light. When a child tries to see, the presence of light stimulates the
sensitive screen of the eye or retina. Through this stimulation, the visual
process in the eye and brain develops. This process continues until the child
is five years old.
At this time, if there is an obstruction in the entry
of light into the eye due to cataracts or any other reason, vision cannot
develop. This is called amblyopia. This is a type of blindness, which can soon
become permanent.
If a child is born with a cataract in one eye, the
affected eye becomes lazy. As a result, the structure of the eye is obstructed.
This causes the eye to squint. Again, if there is a problem with both eyes, the
eyes keep shaking all the time, that is, the eyes do not remain still. This is
called nystagmus. If any such symptoms are seen after the birth of the child,
one should immediately seek the advice of an ophthalmologist.
Congenital cataracts may be accompanied by other birth
defects such as heart problems, thyroid problems, down syndrome or being born
with an extra chromosome, hearing problems, etc. Therefore, other parts of the
child's body should also be examined.
The only treatment for cataracts is surgery. Many parents get nervous when they hear about surgery, wasting time unnecessarily. However, if surgery is performed in the early stages, the chances of the problem being resolved are higher.
This awareness is essential to lead
a healthy life.
