We often hear about people we know or don't know - "He died of liver cirrhosis". But we don't investigate what it is? How does the disease come about and is there any way to prevent it?
After such a death incident happened in front of me -
I can find out by searching to raise questions in my mind ---
There are various kinds of panic and confusion in our
public mind about hepatitis. Experts say - many people are carrying the germs
of this disease in their blood without knowing it. Many others may come to know
about it after developing liver cirrhosis. So I think - to lead a healthy life,
it is important to have an idea about hepatitis.
Experts say that there are five types of hepatitis
viruses. Of these, only hepatitis B and C viruses cause long-term infection and
complications.
About 90 percent of people infected with hepatitis B
or C in the world do not know that they are carrying this virus. As a result,
they spread the virus without knowing it. Research says that about one crore
people in Bangladesh are also infected with B or C viruses.
Symptoms
of hepatitis infection Experts say --
In most cases, no specific symptoms are clear until
the disease spreads. Symptoms such as weakness, nausea, stomach pain, yellowing
of the body and yellow urine may appear in the body if the disease spreads.
However, if the disease spreads, there may be watery stomach, bloody stools,
and vomiting blood. The patient may even lose consciousness.
How
it spreads --
Hepatitis A and E viruses are spread through food and
water. The jaundice caused by these infections is usually completely cured. But
hepatitis B and C viruses can be transmitted through unsafe sex, unsafe blood
transfusions, multiple people using the same injection needles, sharing the
same blades/scissors, unsafe dental treatment or unsafe surgeries, and from an
infected mother to her child during childbirth.
The disease can be detected through various types of
blood antigen and antibody tests as advised by a doctor.
Treatment
--
Hepatitis caused by A and E viruses usually gets
better on its own. Only a few cases require special treatment. Although the B
virus cannot be eliminated, it can be controlled through treatment. The C virus
can also be eliminated through treatment.
Many people think that if you are infected with
hepatitis B or C, there is no hope, the liver will be destroyed. But now there
is modern anti-viral therapy to eliminate these two viruses, which requires
long-term medical advice or, if necessary, lifelong treatment.
In addition, there are vaccines for hepatitis A and B,
through which it is possible to prevent the infection of these viruses.
If not prevented and treated at the right time,
hepatitis can lead to liver failure, liver cirrhosis or cancer. So, for a
healthy life, find out whether you are infected with hepatitis or not through a
blood test.
