Awareness of various eye problems
Eyes are such an organ of ours that ignoring even a small problem means unknowingly causing great harm.
Only an eyeless person can know or understand how much
he has missed from this birth - from this life - from this world! And his
suffering is beyond words! Therefore, it is important to be aware and take care
of it while there is time.
Seeing the glaucoma problem of an acquaintance of
mine, I felt the need to know about this problem and make everyone aware.
At one time, I saw him working as a skilled government
employee, but now he looks for the cooperation of others even for small tasks!
He is even forced to depend on others in his daily movements! It is important
for each of us to be aware for a beautiful and healthy life.
When
vision is blurred -
Ophthalmologist says - Any eye problem, including
difficulty reading text, whether near or far, is not only due to age. It can
also be related to other physical problems.
Why cause unnecessary suffering by neglecting or being
ignorant? Awareness - For caution, know some information in this regard that I
have learned from experts -
1. Anyone, young or old, can be affected by vision
problems (reflective error). Myopia or hyperopia can be detected by going to
the doctor and can be solved by using glasses. Many people also see blurred
vision due to cross eyed or cataracts. There is also treatment for this.
2. If vision problems occur at a slightly older age,
you should check whether you have cataracts. Cataracts can also occur at a
relatively young age due to diabetes and other reasons.
3. If high blood pressure and diabetes are out of
control, the retina, nerves, etc. of the eye are damaged. This problem is
called retinopathy. This reduces vision. Therefore, if there is a problem with
vision, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, etc. should be measured.
4. If the blood flow to the retina suddenly stops or
if the retina detaches, vision may suddenly decrease. In these cases, immediate
medical advice should be sought. Otherwise, there is a risk of vision loss.
5. Vision can become temporarily blurred for various
reasons. For example, if blood sugar levels in diabetic patients suddenly drop,
migraines, and eye infections like conjunctivitis, etc. Usually, vision returns
to normal in these cases. Problems with vision can also occur due to brain
complications.
The
name of the problem is "Glaucoma" -
Experts say - The name of the problem that is
incurable and known as the silent killer of the eyes is glaucoma. The main
cause of blindness is 'Glaucoma'. About 4.5 million people in the world are
victims of permanent blindness due to glaucoma and 80 million people are
affected by glaucoma. Most of them are residents of less developed countries in
Asia. However, many people do not know about this problem.
Experts say - Glaucoma is a disease of the main nerve
cord of the eye (optic nerve). In this problem, the nerve cord gradually deteriorates,
the range of vision gradually decreases. If not treated properly at the right
time, the problem can result in blindness.
High pressure inside the eye is considered one of the
main causes of glaucoma. Other risks include hereditary history - those whose
parents or siblings are affected by this disease are at a higher risk.
Diabetes, high blood pressure, eye minus or plus power, migraine, eye injury,
other eye diseases, and uncontrolled use of steroid-like eye drops without a
doctor's advice.
There
is no substitute for awareness -
It is important to get tested for glaucoma after the
age of 40. Even if there are no problems, you should have your eyes checked
regularly once or twice a year. Not only your eye strength, but also ask your
doctor to check your eye pressure, optic nerve condition, and visual acuity.
Those with diabetes or high blood pressure need to be even more careful.
Sometimes this disease can be congenital or develop at
an older age. In that case, if symptoms such as watery eyes, sensitivity to
light, cloudy corneas, and enlargement of the eyeballs are seen after birth,
the child's eyes should be checked quickly to see if they are affected by
glaucoma.
Treatment
-
Glaucoma is usually treated in three ways depending on
the condition. Various eye drops, laser and glaucoma surgery. All types of
conventional treatment for this problem are possible and affordable in our
country.
The
name of the problem is " Ophthalmia” -
Ophthalmia is a contagious disease. Eye discharge is
called conjunctivitis or red/pink eye. The main cause of eye discharge is virus
and it is highly contagious.
It is a rumor that someone's eyes do not get red when
looking at the eyes of someone with eye discharge, it spreads through the air
or by touch. Eyes affected by the virus get better after a few days, but it can
affect or cause many people around them.
Ophthalmia is not a problem for the patient himself,
but for others. Some people's eye inflammation may get better in three days,
while others may take another 3 weeks. It depends on the type of virus that has
infected them and the patient's immune system.
Experts say that when the thin membrane of the eye
called the conjunctiva becomes infected or inflamed, it becomes red, and in
some cases, there may be other symptoms, such as itching, discomfort, pain,
sensitivity to light, thick whitish or yellowish discharge etc.
Although in most cases, the cause of this
conjunctivitis is bacteria or viruses, allergies, colds, or when the eyes come
into contact with any chemical or harmful substance can also cause inflammation
of the conjunctiva and make the eyes look red.
When the eyes are inflamed due to viruses, thin
colorless tears are more likely to fall. However, if it is bacterial, the
discharge is thick and slightly yellowish.
How
it spreads --
When the eyes are inflamed due to viruses, the virus
floats in the tears. When we wipe these tears, it immediately gets on our
hands. From then on, whatever we touch with those hands, the virus gets there.
For example, shaking hands with someone, TV, air
conditioner remote, used towels, bed sheets, pillow covers, even mobile phones,
etc. It can get on. That is why the affected person is advised to stay at home
during this time. It is also better to keep his used items a little separate.
Symptoms --
The symptoms that will help you understand that you
have been infected with conjunctivitis include -
1. Watery eyes.
2. Red eyes.
3. Sometimes the eyelids swell.
4. If the cornea of someone's eye is affected, their
vision becomes blurred and their sensitivity to light increases.
Treatment
and prevention --
There is no specific treatment for conjunctivitis
caused by a virus. However, if bacterial infection is suspected, antibiotic
drops or ointments are used. However, in most cases, whether or not treatment
is taken, it will heal on its own after several days.
The patient can spread the disease to others for one
to two weeks after the onset of symptoms. Therefore, it is important to take
care of the following things during this time –
1. A separate soft towel or soft handkerchief should
be used to wipe away tears or dirt.
2. Must be clean. Unclean handkerchiefs should not be
used.
3. Dark glasses can be worn during this time, which
protects against external dust and sand or external injuries.
4. Do not splash with water from outside.
5. If the eyelids are very swollen, ice can be given.
6. Some medicines should be taken as per the doctor's
advice.
7. Do not rub or scratch the eyes without washing your
hands.
8. The person with the eye swelling should lie in a
separate bed.
Not
neglect -
If the cornea becomes inflamed, if not treated on
time, vision may be permanently reduced. Even a condition like addition of
cornea may occur. Therefore, it is necessary to urgently seek the advice of a
specialist doctor.
When
are sunglasses necessary -
The sun is bright outside. It is so bright that you
can't look at it. Can this sun do any harm to your eyes? Are sunglasses just
for getting some relief from the bright sun? Or is it just a hobby?
No, it is not. In fact, the ultraviolet rays in the
sun are really harmful to the eyes. Sunglasses are used for the purpose of
living a healthy life.
Eye experts say that research shows -
1. The problem of pterygium or a small lump growing in
the eyes is more common in those who work outside in the bright sun during the
day. Fishermen, farmers, surfers, and skiers are more affected by it.
Especially, the sunlight that is reflected in the river, sea, vast fields, or
snow on the mountains causes problems in their eyes.
2. There is a term called 'snow blindness' in medical
science. The disease is named so because the sun's ultraviolet rays refracted
by the ice can blind the eyes and cause permanent damage.
3. Ultraviolet rays are also thought to be partly
responsible for cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and some other
problems. Children are more susceptible to the sun's ultraviolet rays. Because
they play in the sun and often try to look at the sun.
The World Health Organization says that we deal with
80 percent of the ultraviolet rays of our lives in the first 20 years, and the
rest of our lives are not spent in the sun as much. Therefore, using sunglasses
for yourself and especially for children is a necessary and healthy thing. The
use of sunglasses should not be discouraged as a luxury.
1. There is a high risk of eye damage when traveling
to sandy valleys, seas or rivers, or snowy wilderness. So, be sure to pack your
glasses in your bag when traveling.
2. It is better to use dark sunglasses and a hat or
umbrella that covers your eyes when going out in the hot sun, especially in the
middle of the day.
3. Do not allow children to look directly at the sun.
Elders used to say that it is forbidden to look at the sun during a solar
eclipse - this is true. At this time, the sun emits more ultraviolet rays. As a
result, there is a risk of permanent eye damage. This is called solar
retinopathy.
4. Ultraviolet ray blocking sunglasses are available
in the market. Sunglasses that cover the sides of the eyes. It is good to keep
and use such sunglasses when traveling to mountains and seas.
If you want to lead a healthy life – keep to know.
