Awareness about Cervical cancer
Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in Bangladesh. We often see women suffering from this problem around us, still don't care. Cervical cancer is preventable. It is also curable if detected at the right time. So women need to be aware of this, and it is the responsibility of elders to make a girl aware from her teenage years.
Within a few days - I have seen three of my neighbors
suffer because of ignorance. At first they thought - they are having abortions
again and again. They didn't realize they were sick with uterine infection.
To lead a healthy life with family, women's
health must be taken care of.
Why
is that? -
According to medicine and cancer experts - Cervical
cancer can occur due to various reasons - especially lack of awareness, and
lack of necessary knowledge is mainly responsible for it.
The main cause of cervical cancer is human papilloma
virus infection. Cervical cancer does not have any symptoms in the initial
stage or even in the second stage.
Many recover through the body's natural immune system.
But if the infection persists, the risk of cancer increases. The younger the
age of infection (15-25 years), the higher the risk of developing cancer.
Treatment is easier if the disease is diagnosed at an early stage.
Ways
of prevention --
1. Child marriage should be prevented to prevent
infection at a young age.
2. Awareness about personal hygiene and safe sex
should be increased. This should be taught from childhood.
3. Be faithful to your partner. A condom should be
used during intercourse.
4. Smoking, tobacco should be avoided.
5. Birth control pills cannot be taken continuously
for a long time.
6. Every family should pay attention to the nutrition
of women. Malnutrition or a weakened immune system in some way - this disease
can take root in the body.
7. Eating a lot of vegetables and fruits reduces the
risk of cancer. Regular exercise should be done. Weight should be controlled.
8. Know your cervical status by getting regular
screenings.
9. Vaccination is effective in preventing cervical cancer.
How
and when screening?
The screening test is called “Paps Smear Test”. It
involves testing the juice from the cervix. Women aged 21-65 should have this
test every three years. Abnormalities detected should be confirmed by further
tests.
When
to take the vaccine?
Vaccination should be done between 9-26 years of age.
Vaccination is not as effective if given at an older age or later in life.
Regular screening should be done even after vaccination. Because, this vaccine
is human papilloma virus vaccine; Not a cancer vaccine.
To lead a healthy life - there is no substitute for
knowledge.
